Get Educated About Hvac With These Simple To Follow Tips

Posted on March 23, 2020November 12, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Having a good working HVAC system can really be an enjoyable experience in one’s home. A cool home in the summer and a hot home in the winter feel great. If your system breaks, it can be very frustrating. To make sure that your system runs correctly for a long time, continue reading tips on how to maintain it correctly.

Know the name and type of your HVAC system before looking for a repair person. Know the brand name and model number. It is also helpful to have the maintenance history. The contractor will likely need all of this information.

What do you need done? Know this before calling a contractor. A contractor cannot give an accurate estimate without looking at your system. It’s even harder if you’re not able to explain what you’ve done. Thus, it is worthwhile to have this knowledge ahead of time.

Clean your condenser’s fan blades and coils come spring. Except when cleaning the outside, turn the unit off when performing any type of maintenance. Clean off any leaves or debris from your external condenser unit.

Don’t let your outdoor HVAC units get smothered with clippings anytime you mow the yard. Make certain the debris goes away from it. Be just as mindful when you blow leaves to not blow them toward your HVAC equipment.

Some fan condensers may contain oil parts, and if yours does, ensure it is lubricated at least once per year. Most of these ports have some sort of protective cap covering them. Use SAE 20 oil that is lightweight and detergent free, and put ten drops or fewer into each one. Make sure not to overfill them.

A shady spot is always a good choice for the placement of your outdoor compressor. Your unit won’t have to work as hard to cool the inside air if the outside air it sucks from is cooler.

Put your outdoor unit in places with shade. It will reduce the temperature of the air going into the unit, meaning that it will not have to work as hard to cool it.

Consumers are usually advised to have their HVAC systems inspected twice a year. This should be done in the fall and again in the spring. Even if nothing seems wrong, checking it out can help you find and fix potential issues.

Service your hearing and cooling systems once each year. During this service visit, they will inspect the motor of the system, oil the moving parts and check the freon levels in the system. These few simple things will help your system to run at its peak performance.

Turn off your air conditioner when no one is home to help save money. Sure, the temp will rise, but no one is home anyway. If you leave it on all day, it’s fighting the heat constantly, meaning it’s using a lot of electricity to do its job.

You should now have a better idea about why proper HVAC system maintenance is necessary. You can be in a lot of trouble if you have a poor running HVAC. Fortunately, this article has given you the foundation you need.
