Home Designer Tips From The Pros

Posted on November 15, 2020April 23, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Is your home’s interior growing a bit tiresome? There are easy things that you can do to make you room have a new look and feel. The tips in this article will give you a place to start as you begin to create a new look and atmosphere for your home.

When designing a room, be sure to choose a proper color scheme. Provide the room with a tasteful, well-balanced appearance by understanding which colors are complementary and which ones clash. Avoid incorporating many bold colors, which can ruin the flow of a room.

One tip for interior design is to incorporate interesting textures and patterns. Patterns and textures attract the eye and add visual interest. They can draw attention to things you want to accentuate. If you are designing a room to look more contemporary, patterns and textures are a must.

Getting rid of clutter is the number one thing you should focus on. Every home can be cleaned up in some way, cleaning up some clutter is the best way to start. Think about donating items or selling them at a yard sale.

Hang wall art at eye-level for the best effect. If you hang the artwork too low or too high on the wall, it can make your room seem off-balanced and may even give the illusion that your room is smaller and poorly organized.

When it comes to interior design, it helps to take advice from high-profile designers with a grain of salt and follow your own instincts. You will not manage to create a home that you are truly enjoy unless you learn to trust your own judgment and create an interior design that reflects your personality.

Think about getting non-traditional countertops for your kitchen. While granite is popular, using materials like cork, wood or concrete can be great options too. They can be less costly than other options and will give the kitchen a unique style of its very own.

Leave out the clutter when you plan your next interior design project. An excess of accent pieces or bulky furniture can take the air out of a room and make it look and feel claustrophobic. Instead, you can pick out just a few things that will help you open space.

Before you start decorating a room, think of what that room will be used for. Gauge the number of occupants in the room at any given time and what will be happening in the room. Your bedroom should be designed to meet your individual needs, while the rest of the house must reflect the needs and wants of your entire family.

Balance out the cold look and feel of hard flooring like stone, concrete or tiles, with a few carefully selected area rugs. If you have rugs, rotate them to avoid heavy wear in any one area. This will not only give them even wear, but it will also lengthen the life of the rug.

Now you should be able to start your interior design projects, keeping within your needs, personality and budget. Be open to your own interests and likes and you will soon have a home that reflects who you are.
