Here’s Some Required Knowledge For Today’s HVAC Novices

Posted on September 10, 2018November 12, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

Most people are not happy when their HVAC unit breaks during a cold winter or hot summer day. To find suitable people who will repair or install equipment to find out as much as you can about the situation and topic beforehand. Read on to do that.

Before calling anyone to repair your system, know what system you have. Learn the brand and the model. This helps make sure the contractor has the information they will need.

If your HVAC is running into problems, check out each room in your house before calling for assistance. You will be looking to see which of your rooms feel hotter or colder than they should be. This will allow a contractor to quickly figure out what the issue is and how it can be fixed fast.

Clean any debris that accumulates on an external condenser unit. Your HVAC system may run into problems after storms if it is surrounded by debris. Debris like this can cause it to overheat, which could be detrimental to your system.

Be sure to clean the fan blades and coils of the condenser fan. First, turn the power off so nothing moves when you’re working with it. Then, take the grill off, pull the blades out, and gently clean them as well as the unit itself.

Lubricate the oil ports on your condenser once each year. These are usually covered with rubber or metal caps. Put 10 drops of lightweight, non-detergent SAE oil in each port. Be careful not to use too much.

When selecting the spot to put the outdoor compressor for your unit, choose somewhere that gets plenty of shade. The cooler air entering the unit will require less work to get to the proper temperature.

When the weather cools down, turn your outdoor condenser off. If the outside temp is under 60 degrees, turn the unit off to prevent damage. Doing this keeps your system working well for years and saves you from having to spend money to repair it.

If you own your own home or have permission from your landlord, replace your single pane windows with double paned versions. Try to insulate your windows to prevent air from being lost. This also helps retain heated air during the colder months.

Service your HVAC yearly. When they visit to service the unit they’re going to inspect the motors, oil the parts that move, and see how much freon is in your system. All of these little jobs will add up to big savings in energy use, with the improved efficiency.

Don’t let your home get way too hot to where it’s dangerous. A simple AC unit will usually only cool the home around 20 degrees within a short period of time. So, if your home temp reaches 100 degrees, your air conditioning will only bring that temp down to about 80 degrees. Depending on humidity levels, this isn’t even a safe temperature for a human body to sleep at to recover from summer heat.

It can be hard to find a professional if you don’t have the advice. The process isn’t bad when you are educated about it. It is hoped you are now prepared for any future issues with your system.…

Knowledge Is Power, And These HVAC Tips Are Priceless

Posted on February 16, 2018November 12, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

It is integral that you have a quality HVAC in your home. Understanding how it works and how to maintain it is a smart idea. Continue reading to learn more about it.

Before making that repair phone call, make sure you know the specifics about your particular system. Get information on the make and model, plus if you have information on the history of maintenance, that will help, too. This will help make sure that the contractor you hire has all the necessary information.

Understand what you want before talking to a contractor. They won’t be able to offer you a quote if they haven’t seen your system. In addition, you need to be able to tell the contractor what you have already tried. It’s a good idea to learn this information in advance.

Make sure your condenser fan is in good working order by wiping down the fan blades and the coils. First, make sure the power is off to ensure nothing moves while you are working. Then, take off the grill and get the blades out. Clean everything with care.

If the fan condenser on your unit has ports for oil, make sure you lubricate it once a year. These ports are typically covered with caps made of metal or rubber. Put 10 drops of lightweight, non-detergent SAE oil in each port. Be careful not to use too much.

Find a place that is shaded for your compressor. Your unit won’t have to work as hard to cool the inside air if the outside air it sucks from is cooler.

Put your outdoor unit in places with shade. You save money this way because the air conditioner is now pulling in cooler air, which is easier to cool further.

When colder weather arrives, switch off all outdoor condenser units. If it’s less than 60 degrees outside, turn the unit off. You’ll pay less for repairs which you follow this tip.

It is a good idea to replace single-paned windows with ones that have double panes. Having a double pane window helps limit your need for air conditioning during the summer months. Likewise, in the winter more hot air stays inside during the cold season.

Shut off the air conditioning if nobody is home. You may want to turn your unit off if your house will not become extremely hot or cold. Leaving it on for the entire day means that it is struggling to keep things cool, something that takes lots of energy.

If you want to ensure you choose a trustworthy HVAC contractor, invest a little time in researching a few different companies, checking out their reputations. Check with different references to determine the best one for your situation. This is what you have to do in order to make a smart decision.

There are few things more important to a comfortable home environment than a properly working HVAC system. If you don’t know what you’re doing, a breakdown can break your heart. These suggestions should help you to keep your system running well.…
